Minor league notes on Kline, Snyder, Marin, Murphy and more

Double-A Bowie right-handed pitcher Branden Kline is having an MRI today in Baltimore. He left his start Wednesday in the second inning with right elbow discomfort and felt some tenderness in his flexor mass area.

Kline, the Orioles' second-round pick in the 2012 draft out of the University of Virginia, went 1 2/3 innings in that start, allowing one hit and no runs. He had thrown 20 pitches when he exited the game. He is 3-3 with an ERA of 3.66 in eight starts for the Baysox.

The 23-year-old Kline was ranked after last season as the Orioles' No. 26 prospect by Baseball America.

Bowie pitcher Matt Hobgood's throwing program is progressing and he moved out to 120 feet yesterday. The Orioles' first-round pick in the 2009 draft, Hobgood went 1-1 with a 2.84 ERA in his first three Baysox games, but has been out since mid-April with shoulder soreness.

Bowie first baseman Brandon Snyder ran yesterday at about 80 percent and is close to returning. He is on the DL with a slight hamstring strain, retroactive to May 9. Snyder is batting .303 in 10 games since re-signing with the Orioles.

Single-A Frederick catcher Chance Sisco has played three games in extended spring training and could return soon to the Keys. Out since April 25 when he went on the DL for the second time this season with a strained oblique, he had two hits in a game yesterday in Florida. The O's want him to get about 30 at-bats in Florida and see him catch several games before he returns to the Keys. The Orioles' No. 4 ranked prospect according to Baseball America, Sisco is batting .190 in eight Frederick games.

Single-A Delmarva right-handed pitcher Derrick Bleeker is also underdoing an MRI this afternoon after leaving an outing on Wedesday with elbow discomfort.

Shorebirds catcher Alex Murphy, on the DL retroactive to May 16 with a strained groin, should return soon. He ran and hit yesterday. The O's sixth-round pick in 2013 out of Baltimore's Calvert Hall ranks second in the South Atlantic League with 28 RBIs.

Single-A Frederick shortstop Adrian Marin was a late scratch from the lineup last night and is day-to-day. He needed four stitches in his lip after being hit by a ground ball during batting practice. The O's third-round selection in 2012, Marin is batting .252 in 37 games.

Frederick right-hander pitcher Williams Louico has tendinitis in his right wrist and catcher Steel Russell has a similar injury right now. Russell, who has played this year for Frederick and Bowie, had surgery on that right wrist last year.

Left-handed pitcher Chris Lee, acquired by the Orioles from Houston in a trade May 18, will make his O's organization debut when he pitches for Frederick on Saturday night at Lynchburg.

Lee was acquired for the right to two international bonus slots, the 46th and 76th overall. A fourth-round pick in 2011, Lee went 3-2 this year with an ERA of 4.11 for Quad Cities.

The independent ball York Revolution announced today they've signed former Orioles pitcher Brad Bergesen. Here is the story.
