Nationals Announce 2010 Minor League Coordinators and Field Staffs

The Washington Nationals today named their minor league coordinators, managers, coaches and trainers for the 2010 season. Nationals Senior Vice President and General Manager Mike Rizzo, Nationals Assistant General Manager and Vice President of Player Development Bob Boone and Nationals Director of Player Development Doug Harris made the joint announcement. Trent Jewett, 45, will manage Syracuse of the Triple-A International League. He returns for his second season in the Washington chain after managing Potomac of the Single-A Carolina League last year. In 16 seasons as a manager in the minor leagues, Jewett has amassed 1,068 career victories. Jewett served as third base coach on Pittsburgh's big league staff from 2000-02. He played four seasons as a catcher in Pittsburgh's farm system from 1987-90. Skippering the Harrisburg affiliate in the Double-A Eastern League will be Randy Knorr, who served as the Nationals' bullpen coach during the 2009 campaign. The 41-year-old enters his fifth season as a manager in the Washington system. In 2008, Knorr guided Potomac to the Carolina League Championship. He played 11 big league seasons as a catcher with Toronto (1991-95), Houston (1996-97, 1999), Florida (1998), Texas (2000) and Montreal (2001). Gary Cathcart was named manager of the Potomac Nationals in the Single-A Carolina League. The 46-year-old joins the Washington organization after spending the previous seven seasons as a coach or manager in the Toronto chain. Cathcart logged five seasons as a minor league outfielder in the Yankees organization. Matt LeCroy, 33, returns for his second season as manager of the Hagerstown Suns in the Single-A South Atlantic League. The 34-year-old enjoyed eight big league campaigns as a catcher with Minnesota (2000-05, 2007) and Washington (2006). He appeared in three consecutive post-seasons with the Twins from 2002-04. Jeff Garber embarks on his third season in the Nationals chain, his second as manager with Vermont of the short-season New York-Penn League. Prior to joining the Washington system, the 43-year-old spent 20 years in the Kansas City organization as a player, coach or manager. Garber played eight seasons as a minor league infielder for the Royals. Bobby Williams, 32, was named manager of the Nationals' affiliate in the rookie-level Gulf Coast League, returning to the dugout after serving the past three years as Director of Player Development for the organization.
