The Washington Nationals - in conjunction with Major League Baseball - announced their 2020 schedule on Monday. The 16th season of Nationals baseball will commence with an Opening Day matchup against the New York Mets at Citi Field on March 26th, marking the earliest start of the season in Nationals history (2005-present). Washington's initial road trip will feature three games against the Mets before traveling to Miami to face the Marlins, March 30th - April 1st.
Nationals Park will open its 13th season on April 2nd against the New York Mets, kicking off a homestand that will mirror Washington's first road trip of the season. The Nationals will host the Mets for three games before welcoming the Miami Marlins from April 6th-8th.
Washington will host 12 homestands - with three of at least nine games - and 13 weekend series during the 2020 season. Memorial Day Weekend will feature a visit from the Miami Marlins, May 22nd-25th. The Nationals will host the Houston Astros for a weekend series, July 3rd-5th that will feature the annual Fourth of July game at Nationals Park.
Interleague play will match the Nationals up with the American League West. The Nationals will welcome the Seattle Mariners (May 19th-20th), Houston Astros (July 3rd-5th) and Oakland Athletics (Aug. 10th-12th) to Nationals Park. The visit from the Athletics will mark their first visit to Nationals Park since the stadium opened in 2008. With their visit, each of the 29 other clubs will have faced off against the Nationals at Nationals Park. Washington and Oakland last faced off in Washington, D.C. June 7th-9th, 2005 at RFK Stadium.
Interleague road trips will include series against the Seattle Mariners (April 13th-14th), Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (May 11th-13th) and Texas Rangers (May 26th-28th). Washington's visit to Texas will be its first since June 17th-19th, 2005.
The annual Beltway Series with the Baltimore Orioles will renew on Aug. 8th-9th at Oriole Park at Camden Yards and the Orioles will visit Nationals Park Sept. 15th-16th.
The Nationals will make four visits to the West Coast, including two separate trips to California during the month of April. The Nationals will travel to face the Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle Mariners, April 10th-14th, and will again travel west on April 24th for a three-game weekend series against the San Francisco Giants before a three-game series in Milwaukee, April 28th-30th. Washington will head to Los Angeles again, May 11th-14th to face the Angels, followed by a weekend series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, May 14th-17th. Washington's final West Coast trip will be a seven-game road trip against the Colorado Rockies (Aug. 17th-20th) and San Diego Padres (Aug. 21st-23rd).
Twenty-eight of Washington's final 30 games will come against divisional foes, and they will conclude the 2020 regular season schedule with a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies, Sept. 25th-27th.
