Washington Nationals rookie pitcher Stephen Strasburg will be featured on the cover of this week's Sports Illustrated following an impressive first week in the Major Leagues. This is the first time a member of the Nationals has been the primary subject of cover of the magazine. The corresponding story on Strasburg's debut is written by Albert Chen.
The cover spot comes on the heels of Strasburg receiving the Bank of America Presents NL Player of the Week Award for the week of June 7-13. The rookie earned the citation by grabbing the win in each of his initial two big league starts, during which he struck out 22 and allowed only six hits in 12.1 innings.
The Nationals continue interleague play tonight in Detroit with the first of the three-game series against the Tigers at 7:05pm on MASN-HD. The club returns to Washington on Friday vs. the Chicago White Sox when probable starters Strasburg* and Mark Buehrle will take the mounds for their respective teams. Tickets and parking for the upcoming homestand may be purchased at nationals.com, or by calling 888-632-NATS(6287).
