Single-A Delmarva shortstop Jared Breen was hospitalized after he ran into a wall near the stands chasing a foul ball in the first inning Friday night.
Observors say Breen hit the wall very hard on the game's fourth pitch and was down for a long time before he was transported to a Salisbury, Md. hospital, and he has since been moved to Baltimore.
The 24-year-old Breen suffered a fractured right knee cap, broken orbital bone and a concussion in addition to other lesser injuries.
A 24th-round draft pick in 2013 out of Belmont Univeristy, Breen was batting .242 in 62 Delmarva games with one homer and 22 RBIs. Shortstop Guillermo Salas will be moved up from short-season Single-A Aberdeen to take his place on the roster.
This morning Breen tweeted this out:
Thanks for all the support from #birdland. Greatest fans in baseball

In other minor league notes, Double-A Bowie outfielder Glynn Davis has gone on the disabled list with a sprained knee and bruised back after he fell hard running toward first base June 25. The Orioles are hopeful he can return in a few days. Outfielder Johnny Ruettiger will move from Single-A Frederick to Bowie to take that roster spot.
Bowie outfielder Mike Yastrzemski has not played since Monday. I was told he is fine physically and was just given a few days off and should be in the lineup soon. Yaz is hitting .247 with two homers and 30 RBIs in 71 games. He hit .164 in 22 games in June.
Right-hander Hunter Harvey has been cleared to play catch and is in the very early stages of a throwing program. He's on the DL with a strained right flexor mass and got a platelet-rich plasma injection May 18. No date has been determined yet as to when he can pitch in a game.
Delmarva third baseman Jomar Reyes, out since mid-June with a sprained right thumb, had his cast removed and has begun hand exercises. He is still a ways away from returning to a game.
The Orioles have two 2015 draft picks that are Canadien natives that are awaiting work visas before they can be assigned to affiliates. They are 15th-round pick catcher Christopher Shaw and 22nd-round pick outfielder Tristan Graham. Graham also suffered a broken hand before the draft.
Orioles third-round pick University of Oregon left-hander Garrett Cleavinger is being sent to Aberdeen and should be activated soon.
In Chicago today: The Orioles have lost four of five and look to break a 19-innings scoreless streak this afternoon in Chicago. They have also not had an extra-base hit over their last 19 innings since J.J. Hardy's two-run homer in the seventh inning Wednesday night.
At 42-38 the Orioles are one game behind New York, who rallied to win in 12 innings Friday night. Toronto and Tampa Bay are now two games out of first. The Orioles reach the season's halfway point today.
The White Sox (35-42) have won three in a row and seven of 11 games. Over their last nine home games, Chicago starting pitchers have worked to an ERA of 1.57, allowing two runs or less eight times.
Today, Chris Tillman (6-7, 5.67 ERA) pitches against right-hander Jeff Samardzija (5-4, 4.56 ERA). When Samardzija faced the Orioles April 29, they got to him for a six-run first inning which included Chris Davis' three-run homer.
Tillman is coming off an outing where he pitched seven scoreless in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against Cleveland. In four starts this year versus Toronto, Tillman is 0-3 with an ERA of 15.00. In his other 11 starts, he is 6-4 with a 3.50 ERA.
