Orioles get series finale, 7-4 at Nats Park

The Orioles overcame some early frustrations - they hit into three double plays in the first four innings - to beat the Nationals 7-4 Sunday and salvage the final game in this series. The Orioles won for just the second time in eight games and are 2-4 on their current road trip. They ended the Nats' eight-game winning streak. The clubs wind up splitting six games this year, with each taking two of three at home. The Orioles are 11-7 versus the Nats since 2009 and the all-time series has the Orioles with a 19-17 edge since the Nats moved to Washington. Derrek Lee had a big weekend at Nats Park, going 9-for-13 with three doubles and an RBI to raise his average from .214 to .245. He had three multi-hit games in the series. The Orioles never trailed in the game and scored single runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th to lead 3-0. Five different Orioles drove in runs and Craig Tatum had two RBIs with a fourth-inning single and seventh-inning sac fly. J.J. Hardy and Mark Reynolds hit solo homers. For Hardy, it was number eight, two more than he hit all of last year. Hardy has homered twice in the last four games and has six in his past 16 games. Reynolds went 3-for-4 with his team-leading 13th homer. The Orioles, who had 18 hits in a loss Friday, out-hit the Nats 40-27 in this series. Chris Jakubauskas picked up two hits at the plate and also picked up his second win in three Orioles' starts. He gave up three runs and six hits over five innings, throwing 88 pitches. Tom Gorzelanny, who gave up five runs over 4 2/3, took the loss. With singles in the 5th and 6th, Jakubauskas became the first O's pitcher with two hits in an interleague game since Erik Bedard had two, also versus the Nats, on May 20, 2007. Today's game drew an attendance of 35,439 and the series drew 107,615. The Orioles now travel to Pittsburgh to open a three-game series on Monday night. It's their first meeting with the Pirates since 2008 and first trip to PNC Park since 2005. Jake Arrieta (8-4, 4.45) will be on the mound for the Orioles against right-hander Charlie Morton (7-3, 3.21) at 7:05 p.m.
