Orioles postpone Brooks Robinson ceremony

NEW YORK - The Orioles announced today that the Brooks Robinson sculpture unveiling originally scheduled for Saturday, May 12 has been postponed until Saturday, Sept. 29. Robinson's sculpture was supposed to be the second one unveiled in the bullpen area after Frank Robinson's ceremony on Saturday. "I am sorry I am unable to be there for the originally scheduled unveiling of the Brooks Robinson statue," Robinson, who turns 75 on May 18, said in a statement. "My wife, family and I have looked forward to this day for a long time. Due to health issues, I am unable to participate at this time. We are grateful that the Orioles have offered to reschedule the unveiling and we look forward to celebrating with you in September." Robinson broke his collarbone and a shoulder bone as a result of a fall from a stage Jan. 27 at the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Fla. He fell about eight feet from an elevated stage during a dinner and action for the Joe DiMaggio Legends Game. Because he's still recovering, Robinson was unable to attend Frank Robinson's ceremony. Robinson also has a sports hernia that requires an additional procedure. The May 12 game versus Tampa Bay at 7:05 p.m. will be played as originally scheduled. Fans no longer wishing to attend the May 12 game may exchange their tickets for the Sept. 29 game, or any non-prime game this season, at no additional charge. The Brooks Robinson replica sculptures will be given to all fans in attendance only at the Sept. 29 game. Tickets must be exchanged prior to June 30, 2012. Fans who wish to exchange their tickets may do so at the Orioles Box Office or send their tickets to Baltimore Orioles, ATTN: May 12 Exchange, 333 W. Camden St., Baltimore, MD, 21201. The Fans' Choice Bobblehead that was supposed to be handed out on Sept. 29 will now be given to the first 20,000 customers 15 and over on Sept. 30.
