Orioles selecting Gilmartin's contract

The Orioles are selecting the contract of left-hander Sean Gilmartin from Triple-A Norfolk and he's going to be in the bullpen for Game 1 of today's doubleheader against the Red Sox.

Hart-Throws-White-Sidebar.jpgThe corresponding move could involve left-hander Donnie Hart, who last night allowed three inherited runners and three of his own to score in only one-third of an inning. He's been recalled eight times this season.

Gilmartin, 28 signed a minor league deal on July 13 and has gone 2-0 with a 3.14 ERA in seven games, including three starts, with the Tides. He's allowed five runs and 13 hits with two walks and 12 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings.

Gilmartin made 24 appearances (six starts) with Triple-A Memphis and went 4-2 with a 4.66 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 46 1/3 innings.

If Gilmartin pitches for the Orioles, he will become their 51st player used in 2018.

The 40-man roster has two openings, and a corresponding move won't be necessary.

The Braves drafted Gilmartin in the first round in 2011 out of Florida State University. He appeared in 66 games with the Mets from 2015 to 2017 and was 3-3 with a 4.14 ERA and 1.340 WHIP in 78 1/3 innings. He registered a 2.67 ERA in 50 appearances in 2015 as a Rule 5 pick.
