Orioles will lean toward the right with tonight's lineup

The Orioles will find out today whether reliever Darren O'Day really is available to pitch or just "physically active," which might push him onto the disabled list.

O'Day is feeling better, but he's been dealing with the flu only since Thursday and it took Wade Miley a lot longer to get back to 100 percent. Yesterday's off-day provided more rest for O'Day. A couch and a remote control can keep the doctor away.

Manager Buck Showalter will check on Miley following yesterday's six-inning simulated game at Double-A Bowie. Miley is lined up to make his season debut on Sunday against the Yankees, as the Orioles expand their rotation to four starters. Nothing has happened to suggest that Miley will stay on the DL next week. He just needed to build up his strength and his pitch count.

Showalter also will get confirmation from the athletic training staff that Manny Machado's left wrist is fine. Machado rolled it in the opener on his spectacular diving stop and throw - he also was sporting a raspberry on the back of his hand - but is expected to stay in the lineup.

Showalter will break out his right-handed lineup tonight against Blue Jays lefty J.A. Happ. Joey Rickard will start in left field and Craig Gentry is expected to play right unless Showalter is ready to toss Trey Mancini into the deep end of the outfield pool.

The most experienced minor league outfielders are challenged to get comfortable in a major league setting, with the lighting and the third deck. Mancini is learning a new position and his education continued at Sunday's workout.

"A lot," Showalter said.

"It's going to be a (process)," Showalter said. "You've got to work through it. It's like Joey. He's really so much better and more confident this year compared to last year with the third deck. It's just a depth perception issue.

"I remember the first ball I saw at an exhibition game at Yankee Stadium, I started running back to the fence and the ball was going to hit about 10 feet in front of me."

Rickard is 2-for-3 with a home run against Happ and Gentry is 3-for-10 with a double.

Machado is 6-for-21 (.286) with a double, triple and two home runs. Chris Davis is 3-for-15 (.200) with two doubles, a home run and seven strikeouts, J.J. Hardy is 4-for-24 (.167) with three doubles, and Mark Trumbo is 0-for-11 with five strikeouts.

Dylan Bundy is making his first career start against the Jays after shutting them out in four relief appearances over 4 2/3 innings. The current group is 0-for-9 against him and Kevin Pillar is the only player with more than one at-bat. He's 0-for-2 with two strikeouts.

Bundy made five Grapefruit League starts and allowed 14 earned runs (15 total) and 19 hits in 17 innings. He gave up 13 earned runs and 15 hits over 12 innings in his last three appearances, and the Tigers reached him for three home runs in the first four innings of his final start, though the wind was a factor.

In his start against the Rays' Double-A team at Twin Lakes Park, Bundy allowed four runs and seven hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Bundy did end the spring on a positive note by retiring the last nine batters he faced, and he was the only Orioles pitcher to complete six innings. He's still healthy. Certain goals were met.

Note: The Orioles Charitable Foundation, outfielder Adam Jones and wife Audie have jointly made a $75,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore for the fourth consecutive year.

The donation will include $10,000 to fund Youth of the Year Scholarship Awards and $65,000 to help renovate the O'Donnell Heights Club gymnasium.
