Pelzer released, Hammel goes six

CHICAGO - The Orioles have released pitcher Wynn Pelzer, who appeared in three games at Double-A Bowie this season. Pelzer was 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA in three innings. He allowed three runs and four hits, walked two and struck out four. He went 5-7 with a 4.14 ERA in 29 appearances with the Baysox in 2011. The Orioles acquired Pelzer from the San Diego Padres on July 29, 2010 for Miguel Tejada. Pelzer just tweeted the following: "Want to take the time to thank the entire #Orioles organization for the opportunity and time invested in me. I appreciate you all." Meanwhile, we're tied, 2-2, here at U.S. Cellular Field. The White Sox sent eight batters to the plate in the third inning, scored twice and left the bases loaded when Jason Hammel struck out Dayan Viciedo and Tyler Flowers. Adam Dunn (double) and Alex Rios (single) drove in the runs. Hammel has allowed two runs and five hits, with two walks, seven strikeouts and a wild pitch in three innings. He's thrown 74 pitches, 47 for strikes. Update: Robert Andino concluded a 10-pitch at-bat in the fifth with a triple into right-center field, and he scored on J.J. Hardy's sacrifice fly to give the Orioles a 3-2 lead. Endy Chavez was hit by a pitch before Hardy's liner to center. He took second on Gavin Floyd's errant pickoff throw and trotted home on Adam Jones' two-run homer. Jones has five homers and eight RBIs this season. Orioles 5, White Sox 2. Update II: Jason Hammel tied his career high with 10 strikeouts, and he left after six innings with the Orioles leading, 5-2. Hammel allowed two runs and six hits, with three walks and a wild pitch. He threw 108 pitches, 71 for strikes. Matt Lindstrom replaced Hammel and tossed a scoreless seventh inning.
