Showalter speaks after 10-2 win

The White Sox showed up at Camden Yards tonight with the lowest ERA in the majors and the Orioles crunched the numbers.

Manny Machado hit his second career grand slam, Chris Davis and Mark Trumbo went back-to-back, and the Orioles cruised to a 10-2 win at frigid Camden Yards.

Skated was more like it.

Machado has 75 career home runs. Only Boog Powell and Eddie Murray totaled more before their 24th birthday.

"Those were good players and Manny has a chance to be a real good player if he can continue down the path he's started," said manager Buck Showalter, who passed Chuck Tanner for 30th place on the all-time wins list with 1,353.

"Those guys did a lot of things over the course of their career. Manny's off to a good start and he'll have a chance to do some of the things that those guys did. And I know more than anything he wants to emulate some of the championships those guys won."

The Orioles (13-8) fell behind 2-0 in the first inning on Todd Frazier's two-run shot off Tyler Wilson, but they did the thumping over the remainder of the game.

"They caught a breaking ball that didn't quite finish, Frazier did," Showalter said. "You had to square one up to get it out of here tonight. A lot of good things, a lot of good at-bats, good approaches. When you've got a quality pitching staff, you better grind it."

Wilson lasted 4 2/3 innings in his second start of the season, with Showalter making the switch after 91 pitches. He retired nine of 10 before Brett Lawrie doubled in the fourth.

"Tyler, we were going to take him to 85 tonight and I gave him an extra hitter," Showalter said. "Two 10-pitch at-bats got him. But he was solid.

"Those types of conditions, he's the type of guy you want out there because you keep throwing strikes and the conditions aren't going to be an excuse for not pitching well. He's getting an opportunity and he's not going to miss a chance to impress."

Mychal Givens struck out Frazier to leave the bases loaded in the fifth. He was credited with the win.

"Mychal got some big outs for us in that situation," Showalter said.

Hyun Soo Kim had a pinch-hit single in the ninth, making him 6-for-11 this season. He's 2-for-2 coming off the bench.

The game ended with Trumbo at first base, Machado at shortstop, Pedro Alvarez at third and T.J. McFarland batting sixth if his turn came up.

Now, it's a party.
