The amazing April for Ryan Zimmerman

The Nationals dropped another game to the Mets after finishing their long road trip 9-1. Even with these two losses to the Mets, they are 3-2 against their division rivals in a span of two weekends.

In Saturday's5-3 loss to the Mets, Ryan Zimmerman ended up providing all the RBIs for the Nats. He was 3-for-4 with a solo homer. He has 11 home runs in April. That matches his career high for a month. He also hit 11 in September 2013.

He has now hit a home run in five of his last six games and seven of his last 10. His 226 career home runs are second only to Vladimir Guerrero (234) on the all-time Nats/Expos list.

Right-hander Stephen Strasburg pitched another quality start, this time seven innings and three runs allowed, a no-decision in the loss to the Mets. He has been a teammate of Zimmerman's in the big leagues since 2010.

Strasburg is one that can relate to trying to come back from an injury that forces him to miss a ton of time.

"It's fun to watch, obviously," Strasburg said. "I think it's great to see a guy who's continued to work hard despite, I feel like a lot people turn their backs when things aren't going well. He believes in himself and he put in the work. Biggest thing is he's healthy, so I think the sky's the limit for him."

As for Zimmerman, just like when a golfer's swing is going well, he doesn't want to overanalyze this run too much. Just focus on keeping it going.

"It's hard to describe. You don't want it to go away but just keep doing the same stuff you been doing, keep doing your routine and your work and hope it somehow lasts for six months," Zimmerman said.

"I'm having great at-bats every time and getting a lot of results, but like I said, I don't really like to talk about it too much, I just like to keep doing what I'm doing. And go out there, got a lot of season left and a long ways to go."

Zimmerman was asked to analyze what has happened the last two days. The Nationals arrived home after their best road trip in franchise history. They lost Adam Eaton to injury last night, of course, but that was in the ninth inning. The Mets, meanwhile, arrived in last place in the National League East at 8-13.

"I think we just had a great road trip and coming home and our two, two of our best pitchers threw, but they had two guys that threw that aren't too bad themselves," Zimmerman said. "That's why this league, it's the big leagues, man. It doesn't matter who you're playing or what day it is or who's throwing, any day that guy on the mound on the other team can do some pretty special stuff, too."
