The GCL Orioles are closing in on a division title

If the Orioles lose today and fail to win another series after taking the first game of the set, the fans' frustration level will just ratchet up again. It would make me want to be a caller, not the host, on my radio show tonight and vent a little. You can call in and do that tonight on Baltimore Baseball Tonight postgame from 10 p.m. to midnight on 105.7 FM the Fan in Baltimore. A couple of more quick notes from the minors: The Orioles squad in the Gulf Coast League is closing in on its first playoff berth since 1991. After a win today over the Red Sox, the GCL O's lead their division by 7 1/2 games with, I believe, just 10 games left. Those Orioles are 32-18 and have the best team ERA in the 15-team league at 1.94. While the Orioles entered today with a record of 47-73, the Frederick Keys begin play tonight with a mark of 73-47. That is already one more win than last year's team which made the playoffs. Frederick won last night on a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the ninth from Justin Dalles. The Keys won their division in the Carolina League's first half by five games and they lead their division in the second half by five games. Frederick skipper Orlando Gomez, a guy who seems to fly under the radar but probably should not, is now three wins away from becoming the all-time winningest manager in Keys' history. Bien Figueroa currently tops the list with 147 wins over the 2005-06 seasons. Kyle Hudson's eight-game batting streak ended last night when he took an 0-for-4 for Triple-A Norfolk. He hit a sizzling .560 during the streak at 14-for-25. Finally, there will be a Bundy on the mound tonight, but not that one. Dylan's older brother, Bobby, makes his third Double-A start for Bowie tonight. He gave up five runs over two innings in his Baysox debut, but pitched five scoreless innings in his second Double-A game.

What are we saying about Simon? (Orioles lose 6-5)
