VIERA, Fla. - Today's starting left fielder, Tyler Moore, was the story early in the exhibition season as extra-base hits were flying off his bat. His scorching spring has been overshadowed the past two weeks by a series of injuries facing Nationals starters. As we approach the home stretch of spring training, Moore's has a .351 average with three homers, seven doubles, a triple and eight RBIs in 15 Grapefruit League games.
The 28-year-old Moore showed up at camp out of options and needing to make the Nationals' opening day roster or be exposed to the waiver wire. Barring a trade, Moore looks like he's on his way back to D.C.
Danny Espinosa will make his third start at third base as manager Matt Williams attempts to find a solution to replace starter Anthony Rendon, who remains doubtful for the start of the season as he deals with a sprained left MCL. Espinosa flashed his glove at third yesterday and made a long throw for the out.
Left-hander Gio Gonzalez looks to build off his best performance of the spring when he takes the mound today against the Mets at 5 p.m. on MASN. Gonzalez blanked the Tigers one week ago, allowing just two hits and a walk with five strikeouts in five innings.
UPDATE: Outfielder Bryce Harper is out with a stomach bug according to Williams. Harper has been feeling sick for the past two days. He showed up to Space Coast Stadium and participated in some light hitting before being sent home. Williams expects Harper to be all right for tomorrow's home game against the Cardinals.
