Update on Nick Johnson wrist injury

Nick Johnson will undergo an MRI on his right wrist tomorrow to learn the source of the soreness and weakness that forced him out of tonight's game. Johnson struck out in the second inning and Ryan Flaherty pinch-hit for him in the fourth. The Orioles have scheduled an MRI amid concerns that it's the same wrist which has undergone multiple surgeries over the years. "Just had some weakness there and some soreness," manager Buck Showalter said. "He said he was good for one swing and after that he lost a lot of the strength. Had some pain there. I think everyone's aware of the history, the problems he's had there. He felt pretty good in BP today. "They've been working on it, but he's been able to do all the activities. From some of the scar tissue he's got there, they're always keeping it loose. I could tell after the swing he took in his first at-bat that he was uncomfortable, but we had to kind of pry it out of him." Johnson said there's no swelling in the wrist, which leaves him optimistic that he can avoid the disabled list. "A little pain in my wrist," said Johnson, who's batting .207 in 38 games. "I felt it on a changeup. So get a picture, see what's going on and go from there." Asked if it's similar pain to what he's experienced in the past, Johnson said, "Yeah I'd say so, but we'll wait and see what the doc says and go from there. It's not swollen. Some of the things in the past, it's not the same, so see what happens. "That one pitch got it pretty good and I lost a lot of strength on the next pitch. We'll wait to see what the picture shows and go forward."
