Updating Guerrero, Arrieta, Britton and more

Manager Buck Showalter told reporters today that he's letting Vladimir Guerrero "freshen up" and expects the veteran to be in the lineup tomorrow night. Guerrero is 1-for-18 on this homestand and has two home runs since July 6. Asked whether Guerrero would be the cleanup hitter tomorrow night, Showalter replied, "More than likely." But he didn't make any promises. Guerrero is 13-for-36 (.361) lifetime against White Sox left-hander Mark Buehrle, who starts tomorrow. He has two doubles, four homers, six RBIs and seven walks. Showalter checked to make sure Guerrero's wrist is OK. The slump doesn't appear to be health-related. "You can tell in the dugout that he's been a little frustrated lately," Showalter said. "He's a proud man and I want to treat him with the respect he has coming." Jake Arrieta is having another MRI on his right elbow today in California. Dr. Lewis Yocum wanted a fresh set to compare with the previous ones and make sure there are no significant changes before deciding whether Arrieta should undergo surgery Friday to remove a bone spur. Zach Britton played long-toss today and said his left shoulder felt good. Britton is scheduled to start Sunday at Double-A Bowie, but he could pitch Monday at Single-A Frederick if the Orioles decide to give him an extra work day. "We got the response from the anti-inflammatories that we thought we would," Showalter said. Remember how Josh Bell was late coming out of the dugout last night when called upon to pinch-hit in the ninth inning against Chicago reliever Chris Sale? Bell was in the indoor batting cage, obviously not expecting to be used in that situation. "Let's just say I don't think we'll see it happen again," Showalter said. Jo-Jo Reyes is tentatively scheduled to make another start Sunday against the Tigers at Camden Yards after allowing four runs in four innings last night. Chris Tillman will take the mound tomorrow night against the White Sox. Felix Pie is batting leadoff tonight because Showalter noted that the left fielder had some good at-bats last night. Infielder Cesar Izturis is heading to Sarasota to rehab his strained left groin.
