Weekend preview: Road trip stops in Anaheim

The Orioles have been hammering the homers so far this year. They have hit 21 in the season's first 13 games and they have hit 14 in the seven games on this road trip. The Orioles hit seven homers in Toronto and seven in Chicago. The Orioles are second in the majors in homers behind only Texas with 23 and third in the majors in slugging percentage, back of only Texas and St. Louis. The Orioles have five multi-homer games. They have hit 15 solo shots They have hit five two-run shots They have not have any three-run shots They have hit one grand slam Adam Jones, who delivered a big two-run homer in Thursday's win in Chicago, has hit five already to rank tied for second in the American League behind league leader Curtis Granderson, who has hit six. While Jones hit five homers in his first 21 games last year, he had just six at the end of May in 2011 and that was in 52 games. Bet he has more than that after 52 games this year. Now the Orioles road trip moves on to Anaheim for late-night, West Coast baseball that begins tonight as the teams begin a three-game series. The Angels, even with Albert Pujols, are off to a poor 4-9 start. They have lost every series they've played so far, going 1-2 against the Royals, Yankees and Twins and 1-3 against Oakland. The Angels have lost three in a row and four of their last five. They scored just five runs in the past three games with the A's. Los Angeles ranks ninth in the AL in runs scored, 10th in team ERA (at 4.70) and next to last in the league in fielding percentage and errors. Pujols is batting .296 with seven doubles, but no homers and four RBIs. This is the longest he has ever gone to begin a season without a homer. The only other time Pujols played against the Orioles was in a series in 2003 and he went 7-for-13 with three doubles and six RBIs.
