Cole is shaky, while Taylor delivers

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - A.J. Cole labored through 1 2/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks. Curtis Granderson slammed a full-count fastball over the left field wall to give the Mets a 1-0 lead in the first. David Wright and Michael Cuddyer followed with singles and Cole then walked Daniel Murphy to load the bases. He eventually got John Mayberry Jr. to hit into an inning-ending double play.

After another walk and a single by Juan Lagares in the second, Cole's days was done, after throwing 47 pitches, 27 for strikes.

The Nationals bats were cold through the first two innings, as Mets starter Jacob deGrom struck out five of the seven hitters he faced.

Michael A. Taylor gave the Nats the lead in the third on a two-out double, plating Nate McLouth and Danny Espinosa. McLouth is 1-for-2, while Espinosa is 0-for-1 with a walk facing righty deGrom.

Cuddyer evened it up to start off the bottom of the inning with a monster blast off Evan Meek.

We're tied at 2-2 in the fourth.
