It is pouring at this moment on South Capitol Street, and there is rain in the forecast at various points throughout the remainder of the afternoon and evening. What that means for tonight's series opener against the Reds ... we just don't know yet. Stay tuned. As always, when we know, you'll know.
The Nationals would very much like to play, trying to sustain some positive (on-field) momentum from their two-game sweep of the Mets and sending Max Scherzer to the mound. That's a nice combination. Scherzer was brilliant in his last start, allowing one unearned run and three hits in eight innings at Marlins Park, striking out 11. He also dominated the Reds way back on opening day in Cincinnati, tossing six scoreless innings and striking out 10.
This is a very different Reds club since March 30, it should be noted. They are much healthier than they were early in the season, and they're playing a whole lot better since Jim Riggleman took over as interim manager, going 45-45. Yes, that Jim Riggleman, who makes his first appearance at Nationals Park as a skipper since that fateful day in June 2011 when he walked away from the Nats in protest of his contract status. It took seven years, but a lot of people are happy to see him get another shot at last.
