CINCINNATI - And we're back. With the anticipation and hoopla of opening day behind them, the Nationals now begin the long grind this afternoon. It's Game 2 of 162, and it's a little bit of a quick turnaround with a 2:10 p.m. start here at Great American Ball Park.
The Nationals send Stephen Strasburg to the mound for his first start of the season, his first meaningful outing since his Game 4 victory at Wrigley Field in October. The conditions won't be nearly as tough today in Cincinnati, where the skies have finally cleared and the temperatures have briefly warmed up (it's supposed to get cold again tomorrow).
The Nats lineup faces a different kind of challenge today as well in Reds starter Luis Castillo, who has electric stuff. The young right-hander will be facing a starting nine that has two significant changes from yesterday: Matt Adams is at first base instead of Ryan Zimmerman (cue irrational panic!) and Brian Goodwin is in center field instead of Michael A. Taylor. It's worth noting that Goodwin had six plate appearances against Castillo last season and went 1-for-3 with a homer and three walks. Anthony Rendon also went 2-for-2 with two homers against him. (Zimmerman went 1-for-6, Adams went 0-for-2.)
