On Sunday evening, Nationals pitchers John Lannan and Craig Stammen will make another community appearance - this time in support of Bethesda Big Train. The team plays in the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League each summer and won the Championship this season.
The 11th Annual Big Train Base Ball & Auction will take place on Sunday evening from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Pooks Hill Marriott in Bethesda. ESPN's Tim Kurkjian will be the featured guest speaker with special appearances by Lannan and Stammen. Auction items include great sports memorabilia from Nationals players.
Tickets start at $50 for adults and $25 for children, with several sponsorship opportunities available. Tickets can be purchased at bigtrain.org.
Bethesda Big Train hopes to raise $50,000 at this year's event toward improving baseball fields in the community and replacing the netting at Shirley Povich Field.
As a reminder, Ryan Zimmerman's 4th Annual ziMS Foundation Gala and Golf Tournament is also this weekend in Virginia Beach. For more information, visit ziMSfoundation.org.
