Since being named as the new manager in early November, Dusty Baker has been busy learning about his new team. While the veteran skipper might prefer to rely on his own eyes at spring training, he met with his new charges during Winterfest weekend and has been having dialogue with key players throughout the offseason.
Nationals fans have also been getting to know their new manager, who has made several trips to D.C. this winter to get acquainted with his new environment.
If you're still trying to get the skinny on Baker, tune into MLB Network on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 9 p.m. for "Dusty: A Baseball Journey," the latest in the channel's "MLB Network Presents" series.
Hosted by Bob Costas, the program will take viewers through Baker's life, from his childhood days in Sacramento, Calif., to his friendship with Braves teammate Hank Aaron and Aaron's chase to break Babe Ruth's career home run record to his 19-year career as a major league player to his 20 seasons as a big league manager.
Among those who will be featured in the documentary are former teammates Ralph Garr, Rick Sutcliffe and Steve Garvey; Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda; and longtime baseball broadcasters Duane Kuiper and Pat Hughes.
Baker's interests away from the field will also be discussed. Baker is a huge music fan who once met legendary rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix and maintains a longstanding friendship with blues and rock musician Elvin Bishop. The new Nationals manager also runs a wine business, Baker Family Wines.
