FLUSHING, N.Y. - Coming off the high of Max Scherzer's dazzling no-hitter last night, the Nationals enter today's finale with the realization that their season is coming to an end.
A roller coaster season of bouncing back and forth from the bullpen to the rotation for Tanner Roark ends with a start today. Roark is coming off arguably his best outing of the season last Tuesday. The right-hander held the Braves to just two runs over 6 2/3 innings in the Nationals' 2-0 loss.
Roark is 3-0 with a 2.53 ERA in five games at Citi Field.
Making the first start of his career, rookie Pedro Severino will work behind the plate with Roark. Severino roped a double off the left field wall in his lone at-bat of his major league debut on Sept. 20.
Bryce Harper's .331 batting average begins the day tied with Miami's Dee Gordon for tops in the National League. Harper is also evened up with Colorado's Nolan Arenado for most homers (42) in the league. The young slugger needs one more RBI for 100.
