Nationals select right-hander Ross Ohlendorf from Syracuse, option right-hander Nathan Karns to Harrisburg
The Washington Nationals selected right-handed pitcher Ross Ohlendorf from Syracuse of the Triple-A International League and optioned right-handed pitcher Nathan Karns to Harrisburg of the Double-A Eastern League. Additionally, the Nationals transferred right-handed pitcher Christian Garcia to the 60-Day Disabled List. Nationals Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements.
Ohlendorf, who is scheduled to make his Nationals debut tonight against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, went 4-5 with a 4.27 ERA in 13 games/12 starts this season with Syracuse. In his final three starts with the Chiefs, the 30-year-old posted a 1-0 record and 1.56 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 17.1 innings.
Washington signed Ohlendorf as a minor-league free agent on Jan. 15, 2013. He is 18-32 with a 5.10 ERA in 108 games/73 starts during six big-league seasons with the New York Yankees ('07-08), Pittsburgh Pirates ('08-11) and San Diego Padres ('12).
Karns, 25, went 0-1 with a 7.50 ERA in three starts this season with Washington.
