We go to extras in New York (Nats put a thumping on Mets in 10th)

FLUSHING, N.Y. - As the rain continues to fall, the Nationals and Mets continue to play. We're heading to extra innings, tied 2-2. A combination of Michael Gonzalez, Ryan Mattheus and Tom Gorzelanny held the Mets scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings, and we go to the 10th at Citi Field. Gorzelanny allowed a two-out double to Daniel Murphy in the ninth, but was able to retire Jason Bay on a grounder to third to end the inning. Ryan Zimmerman made a sparkling play on Bay's ground ball, ranging far to his left, spinning and gunning an accurate throw to first to get the Mets' left fielder. The Nats are 6-6 in extra-inning games this season. Meanwhile, down on the farm, Jayson Werth went 0-for-3 in his first rehab game with Triple-A Syracuse. Chad Tracy went 1-for-3 with Syracuse, while Chien-Ming Wang delivered a stellar outing at Double-A Harrisburg, going 6 1/3 scoreless innings. Wang allowed just two hits and struck out six. Now that's more like it. Update: The Nationals didn't have a single hit from innings two through eight. They have five hits and six runs in the 10th inning. Now that's more like it. Up with one out, Bryce Harper broke a 2-2 tie with a bases-loaded single to right, which brought in Sandy Leon. Then the Nats hammered the Mets into the ground. Zimmerman crushed a 1-2 fastball from Pedro Beato to deep center, clearing the bases and giving the Nats a 6-2 lead. Michael Morse followed by demolishing a ball to center for his sixth homer of the season. The two-run shot made it 8-2 Nationals. With the exception of Harper's first-inning home run, it took a while for the Nationals' offense to come around tonight. But better late than never, I guess. Update II: It's a final. With the Braves' loss tonight and the Nationals' 8-2 win, the Nats are now back to 4 1/2 games up in the NL East.
