A short start and long string of double plays end O's win streak

To say the least, it was a frustrating night in Oakland, where the Orioles have had a few. Their starter could not survive five innings, meanwhile, at bat, the Orioles hit into four double plays. The scoreless streak for the Orioles' bullpen ended at 15 2/3 innings when Oakland scored three runs off Alfredo Simon in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie. The A's beat the O's 6-2 to end the Orioles' five-game win streak. The Orioles are now 1-10 in their last 11 games at Oakland and have lost 28 of their last 37 games there.

The Orioles' offense struck a bad tone early on when they had the bases loaded and one run in with no outs in the top of the second and could not add any other scoring in that inning. That rally ended when Jake Fox hit into the first of the parade of the DP balls. Chris Tillman needed 102 pitches to clear 4 1/3 innings. He only allowed one earned run and has an ERA of just 1.33 over his last four starts, but those starts have covered a total of only 20 1/3 innings. Tillman has pitched fewer than six innings in seven of his ten starts. Vlad Guerrero and Nick Markakis extended their respective hitting streaks to 12 in the loss. Vlad is batting .377 and Markakis is hitting .360 during their streaks. The Orioles fall back under .500 at 24-25 with the loss and missed a chance to be a game over .500 for the first time since April 14th. A win would have given the Birds their first six-game win streak since April of 2008.
