Barraclough reinstated from injured list, optioned to Harrisburg

The Nationals announced that right-hander Kyle Barraclough has been reinstated from the injured list and optioned to Double-A Harrisburg.

Barraclough had been on the injured list with a right radial nerve irritation since June 16. He made three rehab appearances at high Single-A Potomac, going 0-0 with a 6.00 ERA. In three innings, he allowed two earned runs on four hits, with no walks and six strikeouts. He surrendered two solo homers.

But with this move it is obvious the Nationals are pleased with what they have seen from newcomers Fernando Rodney and Tanner Rainey and the recent uptick for Wander Suero.

Rodney has recorded two saves despite a two-run, two-hit hiccup Sunday. Rainey has provided scoreless relief in 14 of his 21 outings, and although he has struggled with command recently, the Nats love his mid-to-high-90's stuff. Suero has had issues as well, but still has managed a 2.00 ERA his last 10 games.

Barraclough struggled to a 1-2 record with a 6.39 ERA and two blown saves this season with the Nats, and just allowed a pair of solo homers the last two games at the high Single-A level. The Nats are stashing him close by because they respect his veteran experience and ability, but right now believe that what Rodney and company are giving them at the moment gives them a better chance to win.
