Britton update, Futures Game selections and Triple-A All-Stars

Orioles closer Zach Britton retired all three batters he faced today at Double-A Bowie, striking out two of them to complete the Eastern League portion of his rehab assignment.

Britton threw 14 pitches, eight for strikes, after replacing starter Jesus Liranzo in the top of the fourth inning at Prince George's Stadium. The other out recorded came on a ground ball.

The Orioles will send Britton to Single-A Frederick for Friday night's game, allowing him to pitch back-to-back for the first time. He's scheduled to join Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.

The current plan calls for Britton to come off the disabled list on July 5.

Britton has surrendered one run and three hits in five innings in his five rehab appearances. He's walked two and struck out six.

Liranzo allowed one hit, walked a batter and struck out four today in three scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 4.88.

The Baysox hit four home runs in the first five innings while building an 8-0 lead over Altoona. Austin Hays, denied a spot in the All-Star Futures Game, hit a three-run shot in the third inning. Chris O'Brien had a solo shot in the fourth, and Mike Yastrzemski and Austin Wynns added solo homers in the fifth.

Norfolk catcher Chance Sisco and Bowie left-hander Tanner Scott have been chosen to the All-Star Futures Game in Miami.

Sisco, 22, was selected again after hitting a home run last year. He's batting .266/.342/.383 with 16 doubles, three home runs and 28 RBIs in 61 games. He's hitting .300 in 30 games since May 18.

Incorporating a slider to go with a fastball that touches 100 mph, Scott has registered a 1.40 ERA and struck out 57 batters in 45 innings. Opponents are batting .172 against him.

Former Orioles catcher Charles Johnson will manage the U.S. Team. Former outfielder Luis Matos will serve as first base coach for the World Team.

The Futures Game will be played on July 9 at Marlins Park.

Sisco, second baseman Johnny Giavotella and reliever Jimmy Yacabonis will represent Norfolk in the Triple-A All-Star Game.

Giavotella, 29, is batting .309 with five home runs and 43 doubles in 76 games. He began today leading the International League with 94 hits and added to his total with a single.

Yacabonis, 25, is 1-0 with a 0.93 ERA and seven saves in 27 relief appearances. He's held opponents to a league-best .134 average.

Yacabonis made his major league debut on June 11 at Yankee Stadium. He appeared in three games for the Orioles, all on the road, and allowed four runs with six walks in 3 1/3 innings.
