Buck Showalter named 2014 Manager of the Year by Baseball America

Baseball America today announced that Buck Showalter has been named winner of the 2014 Manager of the Year award. Showalter becomes the third manager to be recognized with the award twice (also 2012) since Baseball America began giving the honor in 1998, joining BOBBY COX (2004 and 2010) and Mike Scioscia (2002 and 2009). He was also the recipient of the publication's inaugural Minor League Manager of the Year award in 1989. The Orioles were the 2014 American League East champions and advanced to the American League Championship Series for the first time since 1997. Baltimore's 96-66 record was tied for second-best in the majors in 2014 and the club's best single-season mark since 1997, when they went 98-64. Showalter and Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations Dan Duquette (Executive of the Year) paired to make the Orioles the third organization to be recognized with both Baseball America awards in the same year, joining the 2006 Detroit Tigers (Dave Dombrowski and Jim Leyland) and 2001 Seattle Mariners (Pat Gillick and Lou Piniella).
