Bundy allows three home runs in six innings (O's lose 7-3)

SARASOTA, Fla. - Dylan Bundy gave up three home runs today and retired the last nine Tigers batters as the first Orioles pitcher to complete six innings this spring.

Bundy will have to decide whether to dwell on the good or the bad.

New Orioles pitcher Alec Asher replaced Bundy to start the sixth with the Orioles behind 5-1. Bundy allowed five runs and six hits, walked none and struck out two. He threw 82 pitches, 59 for strikes.

Bundy surrendered the three home runs in the first four innings, including Omar Infante's wind-blown shot to left field as the second batter of the game. Tyler Collins followed Steven Moya's RBI double past first base in the third inning with a two-run homer to center field, and James McCann homered to left field to lead off the fourth.

Entering the fifth with his pitch count at 61, Bundy retired the side in order and struck out Andrew Romine. He got two ground balls and a fly ball while breezing through the sixth and was finished with exhibition baseball.

Bundy's next start comes on April 5 against the Blue Jays at Camden Yards in the second game of the season.

Bundy's last Grapefruit League start before today came on March 18 against the Yankees, when he allowed three runs and walked three batters in four innings. He faced the Rays' Double-A team on March 24 and gave up four runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.

In his five Grapefruit League appearances, Bundy has worked 17 innings and allowed 14 earned runs (15 total) and 19 hits with four walks and nine strikeouts.

Chris Davis hit his third spring home run leading off the fifth inning to reduce the Tigers' lead to 5-1. It came against right-hander Anibal Sanchez and was Davis' third opposite-field shot.

Mark Trumbo led off the second inning with a single and Davis walked, but Jonathan Schoop struck out and Trey Mancini was robbed of an RBI single to center field on a spectacular 4-6-3 double play.

Infante backhanded the ball and flipped it with his glove to Brendan Ryan, who fired to first. As good as it gets.

Meanwhile, executive vice president Dan Duquette appeared on the MASN broadcast and noted how Mancini will be a valuable addition to the club, a pretty good indication that the Notre Dame product is headed north. He also confirmed interest in reliever Vance Worley and indicated that Tyler Wilson and Vidal Nuño are likely to be in the bullpen as long relievers.
