Bundy struggles through scoreless inning (O's win 5-3)

SARASOTA, Fla. - Dylan Bundy gets mixed reviews for his 2013 Grapefruit League debut. Bundy, the fourth overall pick in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, needed 27 pitches to make it through the fifth inning. Seventeen were strikes. The Twins loaded the bases on two singles and a walk before Chris Colabello struck out looking to end the rally. Now for the good parts: One of the hits off Bundy was a broken-bat single. He appeared to strike out Brian Dinkleman with the count full and two outs, but plate umpire Dave Rackley didn't give him the call. Also, Bundy struck out two batters looking, including Darin Mastroianni to lead off the inning. And his fastball sat at 93-94 mph, according to the Ed Smith Stadium radar gun. That's pretty good velocity for his first game. Jonathan Schoop replaced Brian Roberts at second base, and Luis Exposito replaced Matt Wieters behind the plate. Manny Machado singled to right field in the bottom of the fifth inning for the Orioles' fourth hit of the day. Chris Dickerson laid down a nice sacrifice bunt to move Machado into scoring position, and Schoop ran the count full before drawing a walk. Nate McLouth jumped on the next pitch and doubled to right - the ball clearing Brian Dinkleman's head as he appeared to turn the wrong way - and Machado scored to tie the game, 2-2. Schoop was out at the plate. Schoop was practically on Machado's back as the runners rounded third base. Machado had barely completed his slide when Schoop hit the dirt behind him. A better relay throw might have gotten both runners. Rule 5 pick T.J. McFarland is pitching the sixth inning. Updated: The Twins scored a run off McFarland to take a 3-2 lead. McFarland gave up two singles and walked a batter. The go-ahead run scored after Schoop made a nice backhanded stop behind second base and threw wide to first. Clete Thomas was credited with an RBI, and Schoop was charged with an error for allowing the runner to take second. Schoop started a nice double play before committing the error. He will leave camp after the game to join The Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic. Update II: Yamaico Navarro doubled down the left field line off Sharion Martis with one out in the seventh and scored on Schoop's single to left to tie the game, 3-3. Travis Ishikawa grounded into a double play to end the inning. Todd Redmond walked two batters in a scoreless top of the seventh. Zach Clark (UMBC) gave up a hit in a scoreless eighth. Today's attendance: 5,797. Update III: Trayvon Robinson's two-run homer put the Orioles ahead 5-3 in the bottom of the eighth.
