The Orioles' lineup has a different look following last night's 18-inning marathon. As expected, Matt Wieters is getting the night off after catching all 18 innings last night. Endy Chavez is batting first and the hot-hitting Nate McLouth has been lowered to third. Chavez is 6-for-10 lifetime against Felix Hernandez. Dylan Bundy held right-handed batters to a .165 average this year (39-for-236). They were 3-for-51 (.059) at low Single-A Delmarva, 29-for-150 (.193) at Single-A Frederick and 7-for-35 (.200) at Double-A Bowie. Bundy joins Washington's Bryce Harper and Texas' Jurickson Profar as 19-year-olds to make their debuts this year. According to Yahoo!Sports, the last year that three 19-year-olds broke into the big leagues was 1984 (Dwight Gooden, Jose Rijo and Junior Noboa). There were 537 pitches thrown last night (291 by the Orioles, 246 by the Mariners). By comparison, there were 570 thrown in the 17-inning game on May 6 in Boston (273 by the Orioles, 297 by the Red Sox). The Orioles recorded three pinch-hits last night, their highest total since June 23, 2009 at Florida. They had been 8-for-59 (.136) as pinch-hitters, the lowest average in the majors. The last American League team to have three pinch-hits in a game was the Red Sox on Sept. 6, 2010. Taylor Teagarden has seven hits this year, with three of them coming in extra innings to give the Orioles a lead. His first Orioles hit was a walk-off home run July 14, his RBI double in the 10th inning Aug. 5 at Tampa Bay beat the Rays, and last night's 18th-inning single was the game-winner. Combined with the May 6 game at Boston, the Orioles have played two of the five longest games in club history this season. The 18-inning game tied for the second-longest in Orioles history behind a 19-inning game on June 4, 1967 (a 7-5 win against Washington). It was the fourth 18-inning game in club history and tied for the longest road game by innings with a 9-8 loss at Oakland on Aug. 24, 1969. Darren O'Day (85 percent) has recorded the fifth-best percentage of inherited runners stranded in the AL this year, trailing only Vicente Padilla (90.6), Andrew Miller (88.1), Cody Eppley (87.2) and Clay Rapada (86.3). The Orioles used 23 players on Tuesday. According to Elias, the last time the Orioles used 23 or more was April 28, 2008, when they needed 24. That game was suspended in April and resumed in September. Wei-Yin Chen's last two starts (Sept. 13 against Tampa Bay and last night) have gone 14 and 18 innings. According to Elias, the last major league pitcher to have consecutive starts both end up in games that went 14 innings or longer was Minnesota's Brad Radke from Aug. 10-16, 2005 (14 and 16 innings). Since allowing six earned runs in one-third of an inning July 27 against Oakland, Jim Johnson has recorded 14 saves in 18 appearances and allowed just nine runners into scoring position (one scored, four to third base and four to second). He's permitted 11 hits, walked two and struck out 12 in 17 innings, and opponents are batting .183 against him. He's retired the side in order 10 times.
