Davis muscles up and ties game (O's complete sweep with 6-1 win)

Need more proof that Chris Davis is freakishly strong? Davis unloaded on Dodgers starter Josh Beckett in the second inning of Game 2, homering to straightaway center field to tie the game, 1-1. The ball easily cleared the 410 foot sign and kept going, traveling an estimated 448 feet. Davis is now tied for the 11th-longest home run in Camden Yards history. It's the third-longest by an Oriole. Jeffrey Hammonds has the longest at 460 feet on Sept. 15, 1997 off the Indians' Eric Plunk, and Mark Reynolds is second at 450 on Aug. 7, 2011 off the Blue Jays' Ricky Romero. The Yankees' Daryl Strawberry hit the longest home run in the ballpark's history at 465 feet off Mike Mussina on June 17, 1998. The Twins' Pedro Munoz is next at 463 feet on May 25, 1996 off David Wells. We're not counting All-Star Game batting practice or home run contest. It's got to happen during a game. The Orioles loaded the bases in the third on two-out singles by Nate McLouth and Manny Machado and a walk to Nick Markakis, but Adam Jones grounded out. Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chen has allowed one run and one hit, and walked three batters, over three innings. He's thrown 52 pitches, 30 for strikes. Update: Chen has held the Dodgers to one run and two hits in five innings, with four walks and two strikeouts. He's thrown 85 pitches, 49 for strikes. Down on the farm, Cuban outfielder Henry Urrutia went 1-for-4 with a walk and run scored for Double-A Bowie. Josh Stinson was supposed to start Game 1 of Triple-A Norfolk's doubleheader, but he never took the mound. Zach Clark started Game 1 and Adam Russell is starting Game 2. Now comes word that Stinson has been transferred to Single-A Frederick, and reliever Rob Delaney has moved up from Frederick to Norfolk. Interesting. Update II: The Orioles took a 3-1 lead in the fifth on RBI doubles by Manny Machado and Adam Jones. The rally started with Nate McLouth's one-out walk. He stole second and took third on catcher A.J. Ellis' throwing error. Chen has gone six innings and allowed one run and three hits, with four walks, two strikeouts and a hit batter. He's thrown 94 pitches, 55 for strikes. Tommy Hunter was warming in the sixth after former Oriole Jerry Hairston's second hit, but he sat down. Update III: Machado hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to give the Orioles a 6-1 lead and knock Beckett out of the game. Ryan Flaherty and McLouth singled with two outs and Machado cleared the fence in left field for his second home run this season. His RBI total has jumped from seven to 11 tonight. Machado has singled, doubled, homered and driven in four runs in Game 2 after going 0-for-4 in the opener. Hunter will pitch the seventh. Both Orioles starters went six innings in the doubleheader. Update IV: Hunter has tossed two scoreless innings, and the Orioles continue to lead, 6-1. Tonight's attendance is 45,248, the second sellout of the season. The Orioles had a walk-up of more than 10,000 fans. Down on the farm, Stinson is pitching in relief tonight at Frederick. Still interesting. Stinson has allowed one run and four hits in one inning. Update V: Hunter blanked the Dodgers over the last three innings, and the Orioles completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory. The Orioles hadn't swept a doubleheader since Oct. 1, 2010 against the Tigers. Chen broke a streak of 10 straight winless regular season starts.
