Decision pending on Reimold (with note)

Woke up this morning and realized we're fresh out of hour-long baseball awards shows. Went back to bed and pulled the covers over my head. Without checking, I'm pretty sure that I missed on only one prediction. I had Boston's John Farrell winning American League Manager of the Year, but he placed second to Cleveland's Terry Francona. As for the Orioles, I did a little research and came up with a few more things that they're "willing" to do: 1. Sell peanuts at Camden Yards 2. Mow the grass 3. Take batting practice 4. Drink Gatorade 5. Wear pants Personally, I'm one for five. I enjoy a Gatorade once in a while. December 2 is the deadline for teams to tender contracts to their arbitration-eligible players. The Orioles' list includes Jim Johnson, Chris Davis, Matt Wieters, Bud Norris, Tommy Hunter, Brian Matusz, Troy Patton, Steve Pearce and Nolan Reimold. You can pick out the easy calls - barring a trade, of course. Reimold isn't among them. He's got intriguing power and strong supporters high up in the organization. He's also got two fusion surgeries on his resume, the first one failing to do its job, which is to actually fuse two vertebrae in his neck. Reimold, 30, told me last month that he's "way further ahead" of where he was last year and will be ready for spring training. The only question is whether he'll still be with the Orioles. Executive vice president Dan Duquette told me on Wednesday that he hadn't made a decision on Reimold, who made $1 million this season. "I need to get an update on him, how he's coming along," Duquette said. "I have to look into that next week. I understand he's doing well." Duquette will receive confirmation if he checks on Reimold, who continues to work out at home after undergoing corrective surgery on July 23 at the Florida Spine Institute in Clearwater, Fla. Asked if he will consider tendering a contract to Reimold if the news is good, Duquette replied, "Sure." Stay tuned. Duquette also said he's trying to acquire another outfielder, and he met with a little more than half the teams this week at the GM meetings in Orlando, Fla. Nate McLouth remains a possibility, though the Orioles would likely have to offer him a two-year deal. Carlos Beltran is viewed as an ideal fit, but he's going to be costly and he's got a bunch of free-spending suitors. Anyone like those odds? Not me. Reimold has appeared in 16 and 40 games the past two seasons. He batted .195/.250/.336 this year, with three doubles, five homers and 12 RBIs. He's a career .252/.327/.439 hitter, with 41 homers and 126 RBIs in 936 at-bats over parts of five seasons. Reimold and his wife, Jenny, are the proud parents of a third daughter, Margaret Elizabeth, born on Tuesday. Yes, that's 11/12/13. Nice line. Note: The Blue Jays have signed Dan Johnson to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Johnson went 0-for-5 with the Orioles before they outrighted him to Triple-A Norfolk. He refused the assignment and became a free agent. Also, the White Sox signed Alex Liddi to a minor league deal. The Orioles purchased his contract from the Mariners on July 6.
