Did we see the potential for what the O's offense could be today?

When I made my season predictions earlier today, my take on the Orioles' offense was that it could be league average or a tick or two above that this season. One game is a rather small sample size, don't you think, but it was an impressive start this afternoon with seven runs, six extra-base hits and 13 overall hits in the win over Tampa. Anytime you can win a game started by David Price - who was 7-2 with a 1.81 ERA at the Trop in 2012 - it's impressive. It sure was. With all the offense that the middle of the order produced today, it may have been less noticed that Brian Roberts and Nolan Reimold each went 2-for-4 as they start seasons they and the Orioles hope it will feature health for both. Roberts' single started the big five-run seventh today. Here are some stats for you: In the final series of the regular season last year at the Trop, the Orioles produced five runs and 11 hits - just four for extra-bases - in three games combined. They scored just 16 runs total in nine games there last season. They hit .120 in that final series then and today hit .342, going 13-for-38. For one game it looked like the club's inability to add a middle-of-the-order bat in the offseason didn't hurt. Long way to go on that front. You had to like the Orioles making Price throw 60 pitches in the early innings today. Matt Wieters had that great 13-pitch walk in the third inning and Price had to leave the game with his pitch count at 100 after six frames. Then the O's got to the Tampa bullpen and most nights this year, teams won't be able to do that against Jake McGee. The Orioles grinded out some at-bats today. Past O's clubs have come up short in that regard. The offense showed some real potential today. Now they just have to do it for 161 more games.
