The Orioles will wait until Monday to have one of their physicians read the MRI taken this morning on Chris Davis' right knee, but it appears that the first baseman will avoid the disabled list.
An Angels physician reviewed the MRI today, but executive vice president Dan Duquette said the Orioles aren't able to "effectively read the MRI until Monday."
"But the information we have is that Chris is feeling much better today and he's day-to-day," Duquette added. "It sounds like he's not going to have to go on the disabled list right now.
"We want our doctors to read it on Monday. They can see parts of the MRI, but our doctors will read it completely on Monday. But it sounds to me like he feels much better today."
Davis exited last night's game in the fifth inning after injuring his knee while trying to beat out a slow ground ball. His foot came down on the edge of the bag and he limped back to the dugout in obvious pain.
The Orioles will most likely go with a short bench again Sunday in Anaheim before having off the following day. Steve Pearce started at first base today and singled in the second inning.
Update: Freddy Garcia has allowed one baserunner, on a walk, over his first three innings, and the Orioles continue to lead 2-0.
Garcia's outs have come on seven ground balls, including a double play, and a liner to right field.
J.J. Hardy has homered and reached on an infield hit for his third two-hit game of the season, all of them coming since April 26.
The Orioles are 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and have stranded five.
Update II: Nolan Reimold's sacrifice fly scored Manny Machado in the fifth and extended the Orioles' lead to 3-0.
Machado singled for his second hit of the day. Machado and Jones, who walked, stole second base without drawing a throw.
I'm not sure of Tommy Hanson's time to home plate, but I'm guessing it's somewhere around 2 1/2 minutes.
Garcia has allowed one baserunner, on a walk, over his first four innings. He's thrown 43 pitches, 29 for strikes.
Throwing strikes. Pitching to contact. It's working for him today.
