Duquette shut out in Sporting News executive voting

Oakland Athletics vice president and general manager Billy Beane has been named The Sporting News' 2012 Major League Baseball Executive of the Year, as selected by a panel of 57 major league executives. You can read about it here. Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette didn't receive a single vote despite trading for Jason Hammel and signing Taiwanese left-hander Wei-Yin Chen, right-hander Miguel Gonzalez and outfielder Nate McLouth, among others. These moves helped the Orioles finish above .500 and make the playoffs for the first time since 1997. You would think that providing the Orioles with enough depth to use 52 players this year would have counted for something. Here are the results: 1. Billy Beane (Athletics): 31 votes 2. Mike Rizzo (Nationals): 13 votes 3. Jon Daniels (Rangers): 6 votes 4. Walt Jocketty (Reds): 3 votes 5. John Mozeliak (Cardinals): 2 votes 6. Brian Sabean (Giants)/Ken Williams (White Sox): 1 vote Someone in Hollywood should make a movie about Beane. Oh wait...
