Dylan Bundy talks about his outing tonight in Frederick

FREDERICK, Md. - For the second time in three outings, Dylan Bundy did not allow a run for Single-A Frederick. dylan-bundy-white.jpgBundy went 4 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing five hits with no walks and seven strikeouts in a strong outing. Frederick went on to beat Carolina 7-3 in front of 4,504 at Harry Grove Stadium. After five outings on the road for Frederick, tonight was Bundy's 2014 home debut. The 21-year-old right-hander, who is coming back from Tommy John surgery in June 2013, pitched to an ERA of 9.26 in his first three Frederick starts. However, his ERA is 1.23 over his last three. "I didn't get to go five innings or any more because of the pitch count, but I felt probably the best I've felt this whole time," Bundy said. "That is a good thing. I was sore after, but healthy after so that is a positive." "Command was better today. In my last outing, I had five walks, but I was battling and staying in the game. I just have to command the ball better and I feel like I was tonight. You can always work on your command." Bundy's curveball command had been inconsistent in recent starts, but it was there for him tonight as he worked on some breaking balls early in the game. "Normally I like to go in throwing fastball-changeup until that second or third time through the order, if you can do that it's always a plus," he said. "But in High-A, these guys like to swing early, so I decided to use my curveball earlier in the game this time." Coming into tonight, Bundy had fanned just eight batters (with 13 walks) over 22 innings for Frederick, but tonight he reversed that trend. His fastball was touching 93 and 94, and was 96 on at least one pitch. "I knew I was throwing a little bit harder than last time but I didn't know how much," he said. "It felt good. Had a full day of rest yesterday and didn't have to travel. Threw in front of the home crowd and that was exciting. First time in two years here in Frederick and it was fun." Being held to 75-pitch outings, Bundy was taken out with two on and one out in the fifth at 73 pitches, 51 strikes. Matt Hobgood came on, got the last two outs and stranded two inherited runners to leave a zero in the run column for Bundy. Bundy now has an ERA of 4.78 over six Frederick starts. But over his last three, he's pitched 14 2/3 innings, allowing 13 hits and two runs with seven walks and nine strikeouts. The Keys won for the fourth time in five games to improve to 52-58. There were two rain delays, and the game was called when the second one hit just before the top of the ninth. Trey Mancini and Wynston Sawyer had three hits each for the Keys while Adrian Marin and Jason Esposito knocked in two each.
