Eury Perez not in lineup tonight for Syracuse, could replace Werth

Nationals manager Davey Johnson announced before Friday's game against the Cubs that outfielder Jayson Werth had a setback in his recovery from a sore hamstring and if placed on the disabled list, it is likely that either infielder/outfielder Jeff Kobernus or outfielder Eury Perez will get the call up. Both have been scorching the baseball. Perez has an eight-game hitting streak and Kobernus has just one hit in his past six games. Kobernus, who is listed as a second baseman, has played some outfield this season. Kobernus is hitting .371. According to Syracuse's game notes, Eury Perez has at least one hit in 57 of his 63 career games for the Chiefs. Perez went 3-for-4, raising his average to .346. General manager Mike Rizzo expects to make the decision after Friday's game. "We will get together with the coaches, the managers and scouts who have seen him," Rizzo said. "We will make the best decision that fits us the best, and who is playing the best and gives us the best chance to win games up here." Syracuse is hosting Norfolk tonight, and Perez is not in the lineup. That could mean he is the choice to be heading to D.C. in time for Saturday's 4:05 p.m. game against the Cubs. Kobernus is in the lineup for Syracuse tonight.
