Feldman and Wieters talk after Seattle's win over the Orioles (S. Johnson optioned)

It was not a mystery to Scott Feldman why he struggled tonight in the O's 8-4 loss to Seattle. "It was pretty basic. Just falling behind on everybody, walking guys," Feldman said after he gave up five runs over 4 2/3 innings. "Just no command of the baseball. Got a few days to get that ironed out for my next one and just go from there. When you are pitching from behind and not hitting your spots, that makes pitching a lot tougher. "Fortunately, for the first four innings, I was able to limit the damage on that. Kind of got a little lucky and pitched around a lot of base runners, but, you know, can't make a living like that, and it finally caught up to me in the fifth." Feldman now has an ERA of 5.70 in six Orioles starts and has given up nine runs in 9 2/3 innings over his past two outings. "Anytime you don't feel like you are doing your job it's disappointing," Feldman said. "But, at the same time, if you hang your head every time something doesn't go your way, you're not going to last too long in this game. "Obviously, I want to do better. All I can really do is keep working hard, stay confident, work with Rick (Adair) and get this stuff ironed out in the bullpen. Limit the walks and stay ahead of the hitters." Feldman is now 1-3 with an ERA of 7.66 in four home starts. "He didn't throw the ball that bad," catcher Matt Wieters said. "He was missing on some pitches, and they really put some good at-bats together. Just couldn't quite get the early out and roll from there." Wieters was asked about the Mariners hitting seven homers in this series. "You get some pitches in the middle of the zone. They have a lineup that has some power hitters," Wieters said. "They put some good swings on balls. I would say getting ahead is the most important thing." Wieters ended an 0-for-25 run by going 2-for-4 tonight. He also hit his 15th homer. "I'd rather win. It is nice to feel good with the swing, but at the same time, I'd rather go 0-for-4 and get a win," he said. Johnson optioned: The Orioles have optioned right-hander Steve Johnson to Triple-A Norfolk. A corresponding roster move will be announced before Sunday's game. Johnson pitched a scoreless seventh inning tonight.
