Feldman goes 5 1/3 tonight in Arizona (O'Day allows walk-off HR)

So, what grade do you give Scott Feldman tonight? Feldman lasted only 5 1/3 innings and threw 109 pitches, including 63 for strikes. But he allowed only one earned run - two total - and left with the Orioles leading 4-2. Matt Wieters hit his 16th home run with two outs in the top of the sixth inning - his sixth from the right side of the plate. He crushed it. Feldman gave up four hits, walked two and struck out eight - his highest total in seven starts with the Orioles. Feldman escaped a major jam in the fifth, stranding A.J. Pollack at third base after a leadoff triple to right field. He struck out Paul Goldschmidt for the third time on a nasty splitter. Chris Davis made an excellent play on a sharp bouncer from Adam Eaton to prevent the tying run from scoring. The ball easily could have eaten up Davis. See what I did there? Feldman lasted 4 2/3 and five innings in his two previous starts after going eight and 7 1/3. He hasn't been the strike-thrower and innings-eater in these last three outings, but he's in line for the win tonight. Hard to argue with one earned run, but the pitch count got away from him. Brian Matusz replaced Feldman on the mound and Nate McLouth replaced Steve Pearce in left field. It's called a double-switch for you American League baseball junkies. Before tonight, Feldman was holding batters to a .119 average (7-for-59) when falling behind 2-0 in the count, which was the lowest in the majors. It's what you know... Update: The Diamondbacks tied the game in the seventh on RBI singles by Adam Eaton and Aaron Hill, and they took the lead on Martin Prado's single into right field. Matusz was charged with the first run after hitting the only batter he faced in the inning. Tommy Hunter is charged with two runs and three hits. He walked the first batter he faced after replacing Matusz, which is never a good idea, especially in a close game. Update II: Davis hit his 43rd home run with two outs in the top of the eighth to tie the game 5-5, but Wil Nieves homered off Troy Patton in the bottom half to give Arizona a 6-5 lead. Nieves has one home run this season. The Diamondbacks brought in lefty specialist Joe Thatcher to face Davis, who took him to left field. Davis and Rafael Palmeiro are tied for the fourth-highest single-season home run total in Orioles history. Update III: The Orioles put the tying run on second base with one out in the ninth on pinch-hitter Henry Urrutia's single and pinch-runner Alexi Casilla's stolen base. They put the go-ahead run on first base on Brian Roberts' walk. Then, they loaded the bases on a gift infield hit by Nate McLouth, who reached when first baseman Paul Goldschmidt couldn't get the ball out of his mitt. The Orioles didn't waste the opportunity. Nick Markakis lifted a sacrifice fly on the eighth pitch from Brad Ziegler to tie the game 6-6. Urrutia raised his average to .298. The Orioles are raising the blood pressure of fans everywhere. Update IV: Darren O'Day threw one pitch in the bottom of the ninth, a slider that Adam Eaton drove to right field for a walk-off home run. Arizona 7, Orioles 6 Nieves hit his first home run earlier tonight. Eaton hit his first homer off O'Day. The Orioles are 14-19 in one-run games.
