Markakis remains a hit atop the order (O's lead 3-2)

During his pregame session with the media this afternoon, part of which aired on "O's Xtra" on MASN, manager Buck Showalter said the Orioles have discussed Mark Reynolds and will do so again. Showalter wasn't aware until told by a reporter that the Indians had released Reynolds earlier today. He expects to hear again from executive vice president Dan Duquette. Though the Orioles continue to check the market for available hitters, Showalter said, "We like our roster." He likes Nick Markakis in the leadoff spot against left-handed starters. Markakis reached tonight on an infield hit, making him 40-for-119 (.336) atop the order this season. He took second on Manny Machado's single, went to third on Adam Jones' double play grounder and scored on Arizona southpaw Wade Miley's 10th wild pitch this season. Markakis batted .335/.390/.489 in 54 games as the leadoff hitter in 2012. The Orioles are 42-21 when they score first this season. Markakis is 6-for-9 in his last three games. Down on the farm, Wilson Betemit went 1-for-5 with two strikeouts tonight at Single-A Frederick. He will return to the lineup on Tuesday. Betemit was 6-for-16 with the Gulf Coast League Orioles before moving up to the Carolina League. Update: The Orioles increased their lead to 2-0 in the second inning on Brian Roberts' RBI single. J.J. Hardy led off with a double, extending his hitting streak to nine games. Matt Wieters walked and Steve Pearce grounded into a force. Roberts followed with a single into left field, making him 10-for-20 with 14 RBIs with runners in scoring position this season. Aaron Hill led off the bottom of the second with a home run off Scott Feldman, reducing the lead to 2-1. Feldman has allowed a home run in each of his last three starts. Update II: What a strange second inning. Gerardo Parra stole third base and scored the tying run when Machado was called for interference. Parra was an easy out at the plate, but third base umpire Alfonso Marquez ruled obstruction, which brought manager Buck Showalter out of the dugout for a discussion that turned into an argument. Machado was standing at third base, anticipating a throw from Wieters. He's entitled to be there. Parra made a horrible decision, but was rewarded for it. Machado was charged with an error, and so was Hardy, who couldn't get the ball out of his glove after fielding Didi Gregorius' bouncer. Two errors by the Orioles? In the same inning? They only had 34 before tonight. Feldman has thrown 43 pitches in two innings. Update III: Roberts drove in his second run tonight, his two-out double in the fourth scoring Steve Pearce for a 3-2 lead. Roberts had a triple and RBI yesterday in San Francisco. He has a single, double and two RBIs tonight.
