Fun (and not-so-fun) facts

The Orioles are 3-18 in their last 21 road games and 27-64 on the road since the start of the 2009 season. The Orioles have scored more runs in Brian Matusz's three starts (19) than they have in the 10 combined starts of Jeremy Guthrie (seven runs in three starts), Kevin Millwood (eight runs in four starts) and David Hernandez (three runs in three starts). The Orioles enter the series with Boston with each of their three starters having a lower ERA than the Red Sox pitcher they are facing. According to Elias Sports Bureau, the last time the Orioles faced the Red Sox with each of their starters in the series having a lower ERA than Boston's was June 10-12, 2008, when Daniel Cabrera (3.98) faced Josh Beckett (4.07), Garrett Olson (3.86) faced Bartolo Colon (3.91) and Jeremy Guthrie (3.40) faced Jon Lester (3.50). Boston won two of three in that series (Colon and Lester recorded wins). Kevin Millwood and Felix Hernandez both recorded complete games Wednesday in Seattle. The last time the Orioles were in a game where both starters went the distance was July 11, 2003, when Rodrigo Lopez lost, 2-0, to Oakland's Tim Hudson. Pat Hentgen and Mike Mussina were both credited with complete games Sept. 18, 2003 in Baltimore in a game shortened to five innings in a 1-1 tie due to rain (the game was replayed a week later in New York). The Orioles are 6-27 and have a .242 team batting average since Sept. 17, 2009. Only San Diego (.240) has registered a lower team batting average during that time. The Orioles have the fewest wins in the majors during that time and have seven blown saves in those 33 games. The Orioles are 6-for-58 (.103) with runners in scoring position and two outs, the lowest average in the majors. They're 17-for-110 (.155) with runners in scoring position, also the major's lowest average, and have left 109 runners on base (6.8 per game). Ty Wigginton has reached safely in nine of his last 10 games, and all five of his hits on the road trip have been for extra bases. He has five of the Orioles' last seven home runs. Adam Jones has recorded four multi-hit games, in which he is 10-for-19 (.526). In his other 12 games, he is 4-for-50 (.080). Says so right here in the game notes.
