BALTIMORE - For the fourth consecutive road series, the Nationals have the chance for a series sweep after winning the first two games of a three-game set. The Nats are riding a five-game win streak and have won nine in a row on the road. The road streak is tied with the 2011 Nationals, who won nine in a row from Sept. 12 to Sept. 26, 2011.
And for the first time in his young career, left fielder Juan Soto is going to leadoff. Last night the 19-year-old produced his first three-hit major league game, first stolen base, first outfield assist and was walked intentionally for the first time.
The Nationals lost the finale at San Diego, but won all four in Arizona, three in Miami and the first two games here in Baltimore.
The only series sweep for the Nats in Baltimore was from June 12-14, 2007.
Since April 29 the Nats are 20-6 (.769), the best record in baseball. The 18 wins in May are tied for the most in franchise history in the month (18 in 2015). Their record for most wins in a month came in June, 2005 with 20.
Their ace of aces, right-hander Max Scherzer (8-1, 2.13 ERA) takes on right-hander David Hess (2-1, 4.15). Since he started pitching for the Nats, Scherzer has tossed eight innings in three of his four starts against the Orioles.
