Valencia on paternity leave, Hart joining Orioles

The Orioles will recall left-hander Donnie Hart for tonight's game as the replacement for infielder Danny Valencia, who's been placed on the paternity list.

Valencia is the proud father of a baby boy, Oliver, born a little after 6 a.m.

Though Valencia can be away from the club for a maximum of three days, he's allowed to come back sooner if he chooses. Meanwhile, Hart gives the Orioles a fresh left-hander after Tanner Scott pitched in two of the last three games.

Hart-Throws-White-Sidebar.jpgHart hasn't pitched in four days. He's 1-0 with a 3.05 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 16 appearances with the Tides. He's allowed an earned run in each of his last two outings over three innings, with seven hits and three strikeouts.

The shuttle stops again in Baltimore. Hart has appeared in four games with the Orioles over two stints and allowed one earned run (two total) and six hits in 4 2/3 innings.

The Orioles are going with a short bench while Valencia is away. He was scratched from the lineup last night just before first pitch.

Manager Buck Showalter batted Valencia seventh knowing that his third baseman suddenly might have to leave Camden Yards.

Meanwhile, Zach Britton will follow southpaw Zac Lowther to the mound tonight for Single-A Frederick at Wilmington, Del. Lowther is making his Carolina League debut, while Britton begins an injury rehab assignment.

The weather forecast in Norfolk forced the Orioles to move Britton to Wilmington.

Double-A Bowie outfielder Cedric Mullins soon will be promoted to Norfolk. The move is in the works.
