Game update and notes on Tillman, Wilson, Beliveau, Paredes and Rickard

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Christian Walker delivered a two-out, two-run double today in the top of the first inning and L.J. Hoes followed with an RBI single.

The Orioles are jumping on Clay Buchholz early, tagging him with three unearned runs.

Ryan Flaherty walked with one out, Nolan Reimold reached on an error and they executed a double steal. Hyun Soo Kim struck out on a pitch in the dirt, making him 0-for-14 with two strikeouts, but Walker and Hoes delivered in the clutch.

Walker is 4-for-10 with two doubles, one triple, one home run and six RBIs. He's also scored four runs.

Mike Wright gave up a run in the bottom of the first inning on doubles by Xander Bogaerts and Hanley Ramirez. David Ortiz struck out on three pitches for the second out before Ramirez slammed a ball off the left field wall.

Wright threw 15 pitches, 12 for strikes, by my unofficial count.

Chris Tillman and Kevin Gausman will split a B game on Thursday against the Pirates on the Camden Yards replica field. Tillman will make the start at 10 a.m., with Gausman relieving him.

Tyler Wilson will start the regular game against the Yankees at 1:05 p.m. at Ed Smith Stadium.

Tillman will be making his spring debut after being slowed by soreness in his left hip. He's scheduled to throw live batting practice on Monday.

By having Tillman pitch against the Pirates, the Orioles also can shield him from a division rival.

Wilson will be stretched to three innings if his pitch count allows it. He worked two innings yesterday in a split-squad game against the Twins in Fort Myers.

Left-hander Jeff Beliveau, recovered from April labrum surgery, threw live batting practice today.

"He did well," said manager Buck Showalter. "That was very encouraging. I know he felt good about it afterward."

The Orioles are hoping they can "deliver" Beliveau healthy to Triple-A Norfolk, whether or not he pitches in the Grapefruit League.

"He's making really good progress," Showalter said. "We're going to like him once he gets the health behind him."

The Orioles should learn on Wednesday whether Jimmy Paredes has a small fracture or sprain in his left wrist.

"I think they're going to re-image him, so to speak," Showalter said.

Rule 5 pick Joey Rickard, who lined to shortstop in the first inning, has played in every game. He's getting a long look while the Orioles have the luxury.

"Those opportunities are going to go away shortly here," Showalter said. "The plate appearances and at-bats and games played like this.

"I like him. Good defender in center and left so far. Timing is everything. He's 23, 24 and a lot of guys start figuring it out. He's kind of come into his own the last year, carried it over into winter ball. It's been fun to watch. He's got a chance to make our club. We'll see.

"He seems like a sharp kid, runs the bases well. It looks like he's got a sharp IQ. So far so good. There's only one way to find out. You've got to keep running him out there. These guys were told when they come in be ready to play. It looks like Joey heard us."
