Game update and Showalter on Norris (O's lose 3-2)

The Orioles will attempt today to improve on their 167-141-287 record in doubleheaders since the franchise moved to Baltimore in 1954. They're 100-65-166 at home.

Per STATS Inc., the Orioles are 18-20-29 against the White Sox.

Tyler Wilson, making his first major league start, retired the White Sox in order on 12 pitches in the first inning. Adam LaRoche led off the second with a double, but he was thrown out going to third on Alexei Ramirez's fly ball to Adam Jones.

The ball was hit pretty deep and I didn't think Jones had a chance, but it wasn't really that close. A tremendous throw for the Orioles' 14th outfield assist, which leads the majors, and the fourth by Jones.

Wilson stranded two runners in the third to leave his pitch count at 43. He's allowed two hits.

White Sox left-hander Chris Sale retired the first eight batters before Everth Cabrera reached on an infield hit.

The Orioles initially thought the White Sox were starting left-hander Carlos Rodon in Game 2, but they're getting right-hander Chris Beck, making his major league debut. Beck must be added to the roster after Game 1.

Manager Buck Showalter was asked earlier today about Bud Norris' start last night at Double-A Bowie, where he allowed four runs and struck out seven over five innings.

"The first three innings were really good. That was good to see," Showalter said. "I want to hear what Bud has to say before we decide what we're going to do next. I've got an idea, but I want to hear it from Bud first."

Showalter said he won't speculate about Norris' role moving forward until speaking with him.

"We all know what he's capable of as a starting pitcher for us and we'd like to get him back to that point," Showalter said. "That's a priority. See where the season takes us."

Update: The Orioles fell behind 2-0 in sixth on leadoff walk to Adam Eaton and RBI doubles by Melky Cabrera and Adam LaRoche.

Leadoff walks are bad. #analysis

Wilson has thrown 86 pitches in six innings. Chaz Roe was warming in the bullpen.

Update II: Manny Machado was ejected by plate umpire Toby Basner after striking out to end the eighth inning. Machado thought he checked his swing and slammed his bat and helmet to the ground.

Chris Sale struck out 12 batters in 7 2/3 innings. Machado struck out against his replacement, Zach Duke.

Chris Davis is the only Orioles starter who hasn't struck out today.

Wilson allowed two runs and five hits in six innings, with one walk, one strikeout and a hit batter. He threw 86 pitches, 53 for strikes.

Update III: Davis hit a two-run homer off Zach Duke with two outs in the ninth, but the Orioles lost Game 1, 3-2, at Camden Yards.

Delmon Young singled with two outs, his second hit of the day, and Davis unloaded for his third homer in two games and his second straight vs. a left-hander.

Tommy Hunter allowed a run in the top of the ninth.

The Orioles struck out 16 times today.

Machado has been ejected three times in his career. Machado, Ubaldo Jimenez and Brian Matusz have been tossed this season.
