Gausman headed to 15-day disabled list

NEW YORK - The Orioles will place pitcher Kevin Gausman on the 15-day disabled list later today with right shoulder tendinitis.

The team noticed an issue with Gausman's shoulder about a week ago and after giving him an anti-inflammatory Thursday will shut him down for the next 72 hours.

Gausman threw an inning in relief Tuesday and struck out two batters in the Orioles' loss to the Mets. On the season, the right-hander has registered a 4.50 ERA in eight games spanning 12 innings. He's allowed six earned runs on 11 hits and has 13 strikeouts.

Fortunately for the young pitcher, he could be ready to pitch at Triple-A Norfolk before his time on the disabled list is up, but the team will use caution moving forward.

On a related note, pitcher T.J. McFarland was scratched from his start at Triple-A Norfolk and is headed to New York to join the team. Chris Jones is starting for the Tides.

McFarland will replace Gausman on the active roster if his flight arrives on time. Otherwise, infielder Rey Navarro will remain on the active roster.
