Giolito earns first Double-A win; Turner and Robles updates

Right-hander Lucas Giolito produced his best outing of the year Friday in Double-A Harrisburg's 2-0 win over Bowie. It was Giolito's first win in Double-A.

Giolito (1-1) fired 99 pitches, 63 for strikes over seven strong innings, allowing only one hit, one walk and tying a career high with 11 strikeouts. Giolito also struck out 11 on May 14 for high Single-A Potomac. He struck out 10 batters July 6 for the P-Nats.

Bowie's Chance Sisco had the only hit on a grounder to center fielder Brian Goodwin in the second inning. Giolito hit one batter.

Giolito threw to catcher Pedro Severino, who contributed a double and a run scored in the Senators' two-run third inning. One would expect Giolito and Severino to pair up multiple times in the majors and they appear to have developed a good rapport. Wilmer Difo and Goodwin had RBIs.

Giolito has put together a pair of quality starts in a row, combining for 13 2/3 innings in his past two games with eight hits allowed, one run, five walks and 16 strikeouts.

He also has been full-throttle in pitches, throwing 86, 98, 96 and 99 pitches in his four Double-A starts. Harrisburg has given him six days off between his last two starts.

For the season, Giolito is up to 93 1/3 innings and has totaled 109 strikeouts in 15 minor league starts (17 games).

* Triple-A Syracuse's 11-game win streak came to an end Saturday in a 4-0 loss to Buffalo. Right-hander Taylor Hill came off the disabled list to go five innings, surrendering only four hits, one run and two walks while striking out four. Hill had not pitched since Aug. 2, when he was hit by a line drive versus Rochester.

Trea Turner went 0-for-3, but had 10 hits in his previous seven games. Turner is hitting .306 in 45 games with Syracuse. For his minor league season so far, Turner is hitting .319 in 113 games with 140 hits, 28 stolen bases, 67 runs and 54 RBIs. He has 22 doubles, seven triples and eight homers.

* Eighteen-year-old outfielder Victor Robles is hitting .347 in 24 games with short-season Single-A Auburn. Robles has three doubles, four triples, two homers, five stolen bases and 12 RBIs. For the season, Robles is batting .357 in 47 minor league games.
