SARASOTA, Fla. - Ask any manager about starting pitching, and he'll reply that you never have enough of it.
The Orioles are in that mode despite appearing to have an ample supply, and Miguel Gonzalez has unintentionally provided a shining example.
Gonzalez was slowed early in camp by back spasms, which occurred while he covered first base in a fielding drill. And he needed X-rays on his left shin Friday after being nailed by a comebacker just three batters into his outing.
Gonzalez is making his third appearance today, getting the start against the Red Sox at Ed Smith Stadium. He's allowed one run and five hits in 2 1/3 innings, with no walks or strikeouts and a 2.14 WHIP.
He'd just like to get through it in one piece.
The Orioles haven't posted their lineup, but the Red Sox are bringing a few regulars to Sarasota today.
